Mediation

Mediation may be thought of as assisted negotiation.
Negotiation may be thought of as communication to reach a solution or at least an agreement.

Hence:

Mediation can be seen as assisted communication to reach a solution or at least an agreement.

A Mediation process is characterized by the following qualities:

  • It is voluntary
    in many ways
  • Voluntary participation of all parties
  • No legally binding obligation to accept the outcome of this process
  • It is neutral
    The mediator is impartial and neutral. He/She ensures a safe environment for the discussion.
